NAME: Daphne Isolde Greengrass Malfoy ALSO KNOWN AS: Daph DATE OF BIRTH: November 24, 1979 BLOODLINE: Pureblood FORMER HOUSE: Slytherin AFFILIATION: Neutral MARITAL STATUS: Married SIGNIFICANT OTHER: Draco Malfoy SEXUAL PREFERENCE: Heterosexual Name DAPHNE: Greek, meaning "bay tree, or laurel tree"; the Greek mythological nymph Daphne was rescued from the unwanted attentions of the god Apollo by being turned into a laurel bush. ISOLDE: Celtic, meaning "the fair" Magic WAND: 8 1/2 inch Ash with a phoenix feather core ASH TREE (the Ambition) - uncommonly attractive, vivacious, impulsive, demanding, does not care for criticism, ambitious, intelligent, talented, likes to play with fate, can be egotistic, very reliable and trustworthy, faithful and prudent lover, sometimes brains rule over the heart, but takes partnership very seriously. PATRONUS: It was originally something quite girly and fluffy, but when Thuban saved her, it took on the shape of a giant Irish Setter BOGGART: Her boggart is, and has always been, an empty, very quiet room. It's not that she's afraid of being alone in a room, but of being ALONE alone. Her dad protected her from it when she was younger, so she was shocked when she found it out, and didn't know why, but it's because she never knew her Mum and was always a bit afraid of her Dad getting sick or something. When he went to prison/she met Draco and he went to the Centre it solidified it. STRENGTHS: Transfiguration WEAKNESSES: Potions (she has never learned the patience for it) CREATURES: Thuban, a purebred Irish Setter that Draco gave her as a puppy Outward HEIGHT: 5’5 WEIGHT: 105 HAIR COLOUR: Naturally a brunette, she sometimes charms her hair blonde to match her mood EYE COLOUR: Green DISTINGUISHING MARKS: Her ears are pierced, and she has a small scar on her left elbow from when she stole her father’s broom and went flying as a child. APPEARANCE: Daphne has always been a striking young woman. Her father always stressed the importance of looking her best, and she took it to heart. Her face is delicate in the best of times, pointy and taunt in the worse. These times are definitely the worse with her father imprisoned, and now she looks something like a china doll with her skin pale and with the bones of her face, particularly her prominent cheek bones, evident. She is of average height, but her torso is slightly shorter than average, an effect that makes her legs seem endless, something she used to emphasize with her clothing before her father’s imprisonment when she cared more about such things. Her body is slightly curvaceous, though her curves are smaller than she would sometimes like. HABITS: She plays with her hair when she’s nervous, smoothing it and making sure that it’s laying properly. She will also lay in bed for more than a day if something really is bothering her, almost as though she’s hiding from the world. Inward PERSONALITY: Daphne’s really had to grow up since the war, and so she’s kind of wildly swinging back and fort at times between acting childish as she always did and being stubbornly TOO independent. She’s still really learning what it means to be on her own, to take life on her own. When/if her father is released from prison, that will be a challenge too, as her faith tells her that once he’s free, life will be normal again, but she’s changed too much for that, she will never be the child that she was when he left again. She’s changed too much. STRENGTHS: Cunning, Slytherin nature is very apparent in her, she can often be quite manipulative, something she learned from getting her way with her father. Her almost intuitive nature. Though she's VERY good at ignoring things she doesn't want to see, she can read people quite well if she chooses, watching for mannerisms that might indicate nervousness, lying, or sincerity. Her faith. Many lost faith in everything after the war, giving up everything and just...existing. She has never lost faith that one day her father will be home and life will make sense again. WEAKNESSES: Without her father with her, she feels lost, almost childlike again, and sometimes doesn’t feel capable of making the decisions she needs to. She is not used to having people not cater to her. It’s shocking to her that others will not give her her way sometimes now as her father's name, as well as her own, no longer carries the weight it once did. Stubbornness. She will not back down. Ever. If she feels strongly enough, she will argue a point she knows to be a losing point. LIKES: DISLIKES: History HISTORY: To say that Daphne was spoiled by her father growing up would be a vast understatement. Daphne was only two and a half when her mother died, too young to have any real memories of her, and also too young to remember a time when she wasn’t her father’s entire life. Those who knew Duncan before his wife’s death would say that he changed greatly after the event, almost as if his whole focus shifted to Daphne. Because of this, he indulged her every whim, often making her a child terror. She settled down a bit when she went to Hogwarts and made friends, but she was always a little frivolous, always a bit selfish. She was, however, full of life and energy, at times charming and at others quite temperamental. She was used to getting her way completely, and could get quite upset when she didn’t get her way. Duncan’s desire to shield her from unpleasantness left her in the dark for most of the war. He carefully scheduled trips to Rome or shopping excursions to France for times when he knew his Death Eater activities would call him away. Daphne had a terrible sinking feeling that her father was doing things he shouldn’t be, but he was her father above all, and she trusted him. Truth be told, she didn’t want to know. To know was to admit that he was…imperfect, and to her, Duncan would never be imperfect. She was shocked then, after the final battle, to discover that her father had been imprisoned. Since that day her life has been turned upside down. Daphne is very much a lost child without her father there. No longer able to indulge in the childlike naivety of the past, now she has to confront the harsh realities in the world. There is no one to take care of her, so for the first time she has to grow up. During the war she had an almost carefree attitude about things, she worried about those who she knew who were involved in DE activities, but she never considered that someone truly close to her would be hurt, killed, or, worse, captured. The capture of her father, and the deaths and imprisonments of classmates made denial no longer an option, though she still fiercely believes her father is innocent. He might, she will admit, have been a Death Eater, but her father wouldn’t hurt anyone. She never learned that Duncan Greengrass has two very different sides, the pushover, indulgent father and the fierce, dark wizard that he shows to the rest of the world. Daphne’s recent interests have been maintaining her father’s holdings and lands, and looking at other cases of convicted Death Eater other criminals, trying to find some sort of loophole that will free her father. Positive traits include optimism, innate wisdom, a philosophical outlook, a love of nature, generosity, joie de vive, flexibility, a keen intellect, independence, energy, natural good luck, foresight, and the capacity to dream big; negative traits include restlessness, tactlessness, clumsiness, naivete, unwillingness to commit, and a tendency to ignore important details while looking at a big, sketchy picture. Yes, Virginia, Sagittarians can get sorted into House Slytherin. And not always as Quidditch players, either, although there have been jokes made about how the Hat will sort big, tall Sags into Slytherin just to pad out the team. Slytherin Sagittarians are sorted primarily because of their ability to dream; these Sags have a vision, and with the support of their House, can channel their energies to great achievements. In return they give their House something priceless beyond rubies: a sense of perspective. Temporary failure is not humiliating to the Sagittarius Slytherin, merely a temporary setback in pursuit of a goal. They can laugh at themselves even when other people are laughing at them, and of course that turns the joke on the idiots who came up with it in the first place. (How devious.) Although bright, these Slytherins will coast through their classes if they can get away with it; they'd rather envision the future than attend to the details of the present.
